Registering
your new software
If you need help getting your software registered follow these
step by step instructions. If you just updated your software click here. If you are getting the 401 page click here.
- Download and install the latest trial version of the
software if you do not already have it installed. Install
it on the machine you purchased a license for, the one
you intend to use it on. The trial version must be
installed before installing the registered version.
- Start the trial version and check the Product ID number
against the one you submitted. The Product ID, a 5 digit
number, is located on the Splash Screen (first screen
that appears). If you did not submit a Product ID when
you ordered please email it to us now at IDRequest@easydesksoftware.com
- Once we have your Product ID we will send you an email
with a link and unlock codes to the registered version.
- Double click on the link, it will take you to a password
required site; enter your username and password, do not use capital letters. Your
browser will display a window that will allow you to
enter the User name and Password we sent you. If your
browser does not display a window but rather takes you
directly to a 401 error page, you have
"password required sites" disabled in your
Internet setting. You may refer to Getting 401 page. If you cannot fix this
on your own please email IDRequest@easydesksoftware.com
and we will make other arrangements for you.
- Download the registered version, it is a very small file,
to a location you wish to save the file to. Do not
download to the program folder as this file is a
"zip" file and needs to be unzipped.
- Open the trial version so that the
splash screen is displayed. Starting it will register its
location in the Registry so the registered version
installation can find it. Then close the
trial version!!!
- Unzip all the registered version
files to an empty folder of your choice. Do not allow your unzip program to
install the files and do not unzip them to the program
folder. When you attempt to install files from INSIDE a
zip file (compressed folder) the unzip program extracts
the file that is to run to a temp folder. It does not
extract all the files. If you need an unzipping
program you can get WinZip at http://www.winzip.com .
(Note: XP and ME will
display the zip file as a folder with all the
contents if you double click on the zip file. This
is not a true folder. You must extract the files, click
on "File" > "Extract".)
- When the files are unzipped to an empty folder,
close the zip program. Go to the folder you unzipped them
to in your Windows Explorer. There will be a few files
there, Install.exe and at least two other files. Double
click on Install.exe.If you are not viewing known
extensions Install.exe will display a setup Icon. Double
Click on it. If you get a message that there is
"nothing to install" or "path/file
error" then you are attempting to install from
inside the zip file (see above). A message
"Permission denied" means that the trial
version program is running in the back ground. You must
close the Trial Version first. If you receive a different
error message review Error Messages.
- If no errors are received you will get a message
(program name "was installed successfully") the
registered version is installed. Start the program and
you will now see a small window for entering you
registration number in the upper left corner of the
splash screen. (This window replaces the words
"Trial Version" that is on the trial version.)
If you still see the words "Trial Version" and
no window then you have two installations of the trial
version at two different locations. Delete one
installation and Start over!
- Check the Product ID again against the Product ID in the
email. If it is different the registration code will not
work, email us with the corrected Product ID.
- Place your cursor on the window and
backspace it a few times to ensure you have no NULL
characters in the window. A good way to check for NULL
characters is to place your cursor to the far right side
of the window. If no NULL characters are present then the
cursor will fall back to the far left side of the window.
- Enter the registration number we sent you in the window
(the Registration number is 3 digits, a dash, and 5
digits, example: 123-12345). Then click on the
"Continue" button with your mouse (if your
software does not have a Continue button use the
"Enter Key","Enter Registration", or
"Register" button). Do
not hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard
you will be adding a NULL character to the window.
If the registration number is entered correctly you will
get a message "Thank you for ordering".
Error
Messages
If you receive one of the
following error messages when trying to install the registered
version follow the directions below:
1) The registered version of (software title) cannot not be
installed.
You will need to install the complete program of (software title)
and start it once, so that the installer can install the
registered version on top of it.
Start the trial version once on your machine, then install
the registered version.
2) Permission Denied
This means one of two things, either:
A) You have the program running in the background and the
registered version cannot overwrite the existing file. Close all
windows so that you can see your Desktop.Or,
B) You may have one or more of the program files with read - only
attributes. Check the program folder and review all files'
properties, remove any read - only attributes.
3) Cannot find (software title) installed to (program
folder).
The trial version must be installed before installing the
registered version. If it already is installed, please start the
trial version once and then close it and try again. You either
uninstalled the trial version, or deleted some file, or moved the
folder since you last started the trial version.
4) No program found to install or Nothing to install
This means that you either did not unzip all the files, or you
are trying to install the software while the files are still
inside the zip file. This error happens because: One, you double
clicked on the Install.exe from inside the zip, and the
Install.exe file is extracted to the Windows\Temp folder. Two,
you allowed the unzip program to install the software. The
Install.exe looks in its own folder for the files to install and
all the files are still inside the zip. Hence, it cannot find the
required files. To see the
fix click here.
5) Path / file error.
This is due to not extracting all the files or you are trying to
install from inside a zip file, Your computer is probably
displaying a folder with a zipper on it and the files all appear
to be inside a normal folder. However they are really inside a
zip file, so you must extract them first. To see the fix click here.
Updating
your software
The update files you will be installing
will update your existing files, do not uninstall your
existing files.
When
updating your software follow the instructions for Registering
your new software, except you do not need to have the
trial version installed, you may use your current
registered version in place of the trial version.
If you
just updated and installed the registered version but
there is no window to enter your registration number,
then the software is already registered. Check the
version number to ensure that the update was successful.
Getting
401 page
If you get the 401 page:
- When going to the download site and you are not getting a
window to enter you user name and password then open the
Control Panel. Select the Internet applet and the
Security tab; click on Custom. Under User
Authentication\Logon change logon from Anonymous Logon to
Logon and "Prompt for User name and Password".
- When entering your user name and password ensure that you
are not using capital
letters and that no NULL characters
are present.
- When entering your user name and password and you are not
using capital letters and there are no NULL characters
present, email
us with your current Product ID and we will send you
the current password.
