Ok, I finally found the applet in the Control Panel that controls how Windows and Microsoft Office operates. All you need to do is uncheck a few boxes and Windows works perfectly. It is simply a matter of changing the default setting. However, once you have fixed Windows, Windows Update seems to always revert them back to the defaults every time is does a new update.
The Options applet is hidden in the control panel,so you must look very carfully for it. Once you see the default setting you will see why.
If you look at the picture below of the Hidden Setting in the Options applet you will see what the defaults settings are.
